Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Red Start Journal, an independent project run by Dhrona (“Red Start Journal”, “we”, “us”). They cover this website and the Red Start Journal app (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

1. What Red Start Journal is

Red Start Journal is a personal investing journal. The website publishes the founder’s own portfolio and journal entries in public. The app lets you record your own transactions and see figures calculated from them, such as net worth, amount invested, fees, debt and returns (XIRR).

The Service is a record-keeping and learning tool. It does not execute trades, hold money, or connect to your broker or bank.

2. Not financial advice

Nothing on Red Start Journal is investment, financial, tax or legal advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything. The public portfolio and journal show what one person chose to do with their own money, including their mistakes. What worked, or didn’t, for them may be completely wrong for you.

We are not registered as an investment adviser or research analyst with SEBI or any other regulator. Please do your own research, and speak to a qualified, registered professional before making financial decisions.

3. Risk disclosure

Investing and trading involve substantial risk, including the loss of some or all of the money you invest. Borrowing to invest increases that risk. Past performance, including anything shown on this website, does not indicate future results. Only invest money you can afford to lose.

4. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • Give us a real email address that you control; we use it to verify your account and reset your password.
  • Keep your password private. You’re responsible for activity on your account. Tell us straight away at redstartjournal@gmail.com if you think someone else has used it.
  • One person per account.

5. Your data

The transactions and other information you enter are yours. You give us permission to store, process and display them only as needed to run the Service for you. We don’t publish your journal, and we don’t claim ownership of it. You can delete it, and your account, at any time from your Profile page. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we handle it.

You are responsible for what you enter. Please don’t store other people’s personal data, or anything you have no right to store, in your journal.

6. Accuracy

We work hard to get the numbers right, but the Service is provided for information only. Figures are only as accurate as the data you enter, and calculations (such as XIRR, interest accrual and currency conversion) use simplifying assumptions and third-party exchange rates that may be delayed or wrong. Always check important figures against your broker, bank or tax statements. Don’t rely on the Service for tax filings or official records.

7. Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • break the law, or use the Service to harm anyone;
  • try to access other people’s accounts or data, or parts of the Service you aren’t meant to reach;
  • probe, scan, overload or disrupt the Service, or bypass its security;
  • scrape the Service or automate sign-ups;
  • copy, resell or rebrand the Service.

If you find a security issue, please email us instead of exploiting it. We appreciate it.

8. Our content

The website’s design, code, logo, name and journal writing belong to Red Start Journal. You’re welcome to link to and quote short parts of the journal with credit. Please don’t copy large parts or present them as your own.

9. Free service and changes

The Service is currently free. It’s an early, actively developed product: features may change, break or be removed, and there may be downtime. We may introduce paid features in the future; if we do, we’ll tell you in advance, and anything you were using for free won’t be charged for without your agreement.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts the Service or other users at risk. If we decide to shut the Service down, we’ll give account holders at least 30 days’ notice by email where we reasonably can, so you have time to save your data.

11. Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability. Keep your own copies of any records that matter to you.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Red Start Journal is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any trading or investment losses, lost profits, or lost data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including any decision you make based on information on it. Where liability can’t be excluded, our total liability is limited to INR 1,000. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts of India, although we’d much rather sort it out by email first.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service grows. We’ll change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, email account holders before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated terms.
